Control Pinch Valve Solves Throttling Application Challenge at Wastewater Reclamation Plant

Challenge

Tempe, AZ, is experiencing significant population growth with a corresponding increase in water demands.

Solution

To increase surface water availability, Tempe’s Water Utilities Department expanded capacity at their Kyrene Reclamation Facility to 9 mgd. The reclaimed water would be used for irrigation purposes.

Results

Wilson & Co., of Phoenix, AZ, engineered the expansion project with construction by PCL Civil Constructors Inc. of Tempe, AZ. Red Valve supplied four (4) 30” Series 5400E Control Pinch Valves with electric actuators. The valves were installed in sets of two, with each set diverting flow from a trunk line to another sewer line feeding the expanded Kyrene Reclamation Facility. The valves were able to facilitate the increased flow, with the electric actutators allowing the utility to operate at complete flow or adjust the flow, while avoiding risk of overloading the plant.
